Polka Dot Smocking and a Snow Day!

Well, the last day of February and we got snow!

Today would be a good time for me to finish practicing polka dot smocking.

I believe the blue dress is view D. It requires smocking on the bodice.

Lining The Dress For McCalls 6015

This is McCalls 6015. The dress is not fully lined as I had thought, so the trial for me was to find a way to fully line it. The instructions do not include the bottom half of the zipper to be lined. This is not the look that I was looking for, so I had to search online to find a way to fully line this dress.  I used Angela Kane's method to line the zipper , but I had to slip stitch (See photo below) the dress at the shoulders.

Although I accomplished the task of lining the dress so that the bottom half of the zipper is not exposed, I will find another method because I do not want to have to slip stitch the shoulders together each time I make this dress.

Completed dress using Butterick 5585

This is the completed dress using Butterick 5585. I added the bow to give it character.

Here is a better view of the bodice. The pattern suggested using store bought bias trim, but I think that would have made the neck sag, so I just used the knit fabric and made it a little wider than the suggested bias tape size.

Butterick 5585

I love this print.  I purchased it from Hancock.  I thought it was just right for a baby "Onsies" dress. In this pic, you can see where I have finished the bodice.

Here is the dress with the skirt and bodice attached. All I need to do is hem, and it is a triumph!

McCalls 6015

McCalls 6015
I embroidered a flower and placed a label on the lining.
